Gable Horsemanship is a training program that is based on obtaining complete control of the horse in all situations, with safety being the number one priority, and building confidence in both horse and rider following next.

Matt's training philosophy is the result of years of study with many horsemen and horsewomen. Ken McNabb, John and Josh Lyons and other western and english trainers have influenced his training style. He has combined the skills that he obtained from the weathered trainers with the knowledge that he's gained from his personal experiences to create a training program that is time tested, yet fresh and innovative.

"It is important to understand that every moment that we spend with our horses we are teaching them something. We are all trainers and our horses are learning all the time that we spend around them. Since we are always teaching and the horse is always learning, we need to make certain that everything we do with our horses is a step in the direction of our goals."

Matt began training seriously in 1998 after a friend introduced him to the John Lyons' Conditioned Response Training Method. Matt's interest in John's methods prompted him to travel to Clark, Wyoming the next year to apprentice Ken McNabb, a John Lyons' Certified Trainer.

While in Wyoming, Matt was introduced to the round pen method for starting colts as well as techniques for dealing with problem horses. Matt proved exceptional in handling horses of all ages, and in 2001 was hired on by Ken McNabb to start colts and assist with clinics and the apprenticeship program. That same year, Matt enrolled in the John Lyons Certificate Program taught by Josh Lyons in Parachute, Colorado. Graduating at the top of his class, Matt successfully finished the Certificate program with the knowledge and skills necessary to begin training professionally.

As a professional trainer, Matt has been providing others the opportunity to expand their horsemanship skills on the ground and in the saddle, regardless of discipline.
